Autodesk Acquires Vela Systems – Construction Software

Recently Autodesk just announced that they acquired Vela Systems who specializes in field management software for the construction industry. Vela Systems combines mobile technologies and BIM (Building Information Modeling) at the point of construction to improve the quality, safety and profitability of projects and companies.

Combined with the Autodesk BIM portfolio, the Vela Systems software has already helped contractors, owners, architects and engineers accelerate project schedules, reduce project risk, and improve the flow of information, including key data and project photos, between project stakeholders. Autodesk users can now reduce reliance on manual processes to track progress, document work activities and resolve issues. With the Vela Systems integration, users can also visualize the as-designed building in the field to improve quality and fidelity to design intent; streamline reviews; save money with more efficient workflows by linking physical tasks to a virtual model; and capture critical data on materials, systems, and equipment.*

Troy Kelly Places 2nd in Greenbrier Classic

PGA LogoIn case you weren’t aware, is sponsoring PGR TOUR golfer Troy Kelly. This past weekend, Troy finished second in the Greenbrier Classic out in West Virginia. It was a battle between him and Ted Potter Jr., which ended-up going into a three-hole playoff on Sunday afternoon. Ted might’ve eked out a victory, but Troy put up an impressive fight throughout, and we’re proud of his strong finish.

Windows 8 Developer Preview – WOW!

Microsoft has a new slogan to go with their upcoming operating system: “Windows reimagined.” After watching Steven Sinofsky’s keynote address at the BUILD developer conference held last week, all I can say is “WOW!”

During the address, viewers got to witness Windows 8 in action (an early developer build, anyway). If Microsoft did nothing else to improve Windows 8 and launched this developer build tomorrow, it would probably be an instant success. If you’ve ever used the Windows Phone 7, the UI will be very familiar. The live tiles are back, and better than ever. Very modern and sleek, the interface provides the user with all their important apps, photos, and more within a simple swipe or tap of the finger. Not a fan of the billboard-style flood of information? Windows 8 is fully customizable to mimic the more static Windows 7 design.
