Today is the first day of the post Windows XP era. Microsoft discontinued support for XP yesterday, April 8th, 2014, unleashing the world of hackers on the Operating System.
Typically Microsoft offers bounties to hackers for finding vulnerabilities, but that will end too. Any new vulnerabilities hackers find will be put on the market for any cyber criminals to buy and exploit.
In summary, if you’re still running XP, you shouldn’t be, and it is very important that you update your Operating System as soon as possible to avoid things like identity theft and to protect any kind of sensitive information you store on your computers.
This is the perfect time to not only update your OS but to also get compliant with your Microsoft Licensing. Microsoft has said that by the end of 2014 they will have audited more than 30,000 companies to make sure they’re compliant. For most companies, this is nothing more than a self-audit, but for larger enterprises, it can pose a serious legal problem if they’re out of compliance.
