Big Changes In Microsoft Small Business Servers!

Big Changes In Microsoft Small Business Servers!

Microsoft offers more to small businesses with its server technology

Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials is now a more agile and flexible solution that makes scaling up that much easier!

In its latest version Essentials can run alone as a primary server, or it can align with another server as needed. This is a huge improvement over past versions where Essentials had to be the only server on a given system.

Essentials boasts features that can make business easier

Essentials can now be installed as a virtual machine. This is definitely an improvement because it makes Essentials much more flexible than it has been in the past. Once it was required that Essentials be run on a server of its own – now that it can be installed as a virtual machine there is an entire new world of possibilities open to small businesses.

More scalable in its latest version, Essentials can now be installed on Standard Datacenter editions of Windows Server 2012 R2. This allows businesses to run up to 25 individual users and up to 50 devices (extra fees for these numbers) and enables consultants and service providers to offer Essentials to their clients who are in need of a server solution.

Initializing and maintaining a remote connection is almost much more simple in Essentials’ newest version. The same software can be used to connect to multiple servers, and connecting via a domain-joined computer can enable even easier connections in a virtual private network.

Essentials can be used to bridge the gap for your business

It is now possible to use the Branch Cache feature to increase the speed of file transfers and web browsing between two networks.

Imagine what kinds of benefits are in store for your business in areas like productivity and efficiency! The faster you can browse the internet (or an intranet) and transfer files the more you can get done in a shorter amount of time.

Still more features are available to make Essentials an ideal solution

Essentials also offers the ability to manage storage on multiple servers, all from the same Essentials dashboard. Forget about having to sign in and out of different dashboards just to manage different aspects of your server!

A function also exists that allows administrators to create user groups in order to offer different permissions to different people without having to set up permissions profiles for each person with access to the server.

Essentials also offers the ability to manage Office365 accounts and Sharepoint libraries, and enables users to make use of Exchange features on their system-approved smartphones and tablets.

Your takeaway

Microsoft’s Server Essentials can help take your business to the next level by enabling smoother communications through increased file transfer speed, and enhance and increase productivity through faster browsing. Flexibility is the name of the game with this major contender; now able to be installed as a virtual machine and to run side by side with another server, Essentials is offering businesses the tools they need to succeed!

A cautionary note:

No technology is without risks, but the rewards can be something spectacular! Be sure to diligently secure your tech for any bugs or other software issues that can be exploited by cyber criminals, or consume far more of your budget than expected. Don’t think bugs are an issue? Check out the examples in the infographic below. Maybe we can scare you into taking precautions ;).
