I won’t spend a lot of time on the introduction. You’re here to figure out which Antivirus you should buy this year and you want to know why we think Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2013 is the clear winner for 2013. Let’s begin.
1. Independent Testing Labs Love It
When it comes to Antivirus software it’s especially important to have quality, 3rd party endorsements that legitimize the software’s claims. It can be tempting for software companies to skimp on functionality and then talk up its features too much. Most consumers simply don’t have the time to understand exactly how the software works. Many people often think they’re getting more than they paid for when, in fact, they’re getting less.
Bitdefender doesn’t give in to those temptations. It has attracted the best independent software testers in the world to analyze and grade their product. AV-Comparatives, AV-Test, ICSA Labs and West Coast Labs have all weighed in and given Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2013 top marks.
AV-Comparatives run two different malware tests on their Antivirus software samples. The first test evaluates how well a software’s default settings protect against existing threats. The second test reduces the amount of threats the software recognizes in order to see how it responds to unknown, new threats.
AV-Comparatives gave Bitdefender a rating of “Advanced+” on both tests which is the highest an Antivirus can achieve.
AV-Comparatives also regularly challenge Antiviruses with the newest, real-world threats and, once again, Bitdefender has achieved the coveted Advanced+ rating.
AV-Test specializes in Antivirus testing and they rate products in three main areas: Repairing infested systems, protection against new threats, and general usability. They are currently testing on Windows XP and Windows 7 systems. Of an 18 total points available, 6 points per category, Bitdefender scored an exceptional 17. 11 points is needed to get AV-Test’s certification.
Additionally, both West Coast Labs and ICSA Labs, an independent division of Verizon, have officially certified Bitdefender for Virus Detection & Removal. Bitdefender has also achieved the VB100 certification 10 out of 10 times.
2. Thorough Malware Cleanup
When testing a field of 13 antivirus products for Malware Removal capabilities, according to AV-Comparative, Bitdefender was matched only by Kaspersky Antivirus 2013. Out of a possible 100 points Bitdefender and Kaspersky scored 94 each, earning the Advanced+ rating while all 11 other competitors trailed significantly. The lowest score from a commercial antivirus was dismal 67 from AVG Antivirus 2013.
You can count on the software to thoroughly clean up your computer if it’s currently infected or ever does get infected in the future. Although the chances of that are small if you have Bitdefender already installed. Bitdefender is a very impressive malware cleaner.

3. Iron-Clad Malware Protection
Obviously, it’s always better to have effective protection software so that your computer doesn’t get infected in the first place and Bitdefender performs impressively here as well. It scored an 89%, meaning it caught and protected against nearly 9 out of 10 threats. While no antivirus will ever be perfect, combined with its thorough malware cleanup an 89% is nothing to worry about.
As a default setting, Bitdefender automatically monitors all running applications. If an application starting showing suspicious behavior it will halt it in order to stop an potential threats in their tracks. This mechanism is surprisingly intelligent, rarely halting healthy applications.
4. Powerful Phishing Protection
Norton is the standard in Phishing Protection. They did it best, first. But Bitdefender has caught up. Last year, Bitdefender defeated Norton by an entire 8 percentage points and this year they’re basically tied. Bitdefender is just 1 point behind the consistent phishing protection leader.
Internet Explorer 8 has native phishing protection so they’re used as a benchmark for effectiveness. Bitdefender beat Internet Explorer by 52 percentage points. When compared to more than ¾’s of antivirus software that weren’t able to protect even as well as IE 8, Bitdefender looks pretty amazing.
5. Impressive Bonus Features
Bonus features are capabilities that Bitdefender carries in its base level product that many vendors don’t include in their own base level antivirus product, but may include in their higher end protection suites. Bitdefender boasts a native vulnerability scanner that will scan your computer for Java updates Adobe Reader updates, weak passwords, and vulnerable windows settings.
A particularly cool bonus is the hardened browser that bitdefender produces when you pay for anything online. Called Safepay, this feature protects against any threats that you may get hit with during an internet transaction. If the connection to the website you’re paying on is weak Bitdefender will create an unbreachable connection between your browser and the website.
Additionally Bitdefender provides their SafeGo app for Facebook and Twitter. This app will flag dangerous links and check your accounts’ security.
6. Robust Online Access
When you register Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2013 you’ll be asked to create a MyBitdefender online account. In this version you will have full remote management, which means you can check your computer’s status, launch scans, fix problems and trigger updates all remotely. On top of that the remote management interface has skins so you can customize it’s look.
7. Bitdefender’s logo is a Dacian Wolf
Ok so this last one isn’t a serious reason. Well, maybe it is for some people. But seriously that logo is just plain awesome. And it would totally destroy any other Antivirus Mascot in a fight. Hands down. The Dacian Wolf was the standard and ensign of the ancient Eastern European Dacian people. Fitting, since Bitdefender was started nearly 15 years ago in Romania.
From their website:
“Who are we? We’re a sublime alloy of intelligence, strength and willpower. We have the sharp mind of the wolf and the sleekness of the dragon, the vigilance of the alpha-male and the indestructibility of the snake’s body. We are a unique combination of symbols that fight on Good’s side.
Half wolf. Half dragon. The Dacian Wolf was carried into battle by soldiers defending their territories in ancient times. It created fear in the opposition, and built confidence in those who carried it.
We are now the bearers of this symbol that transcends time. While the battlefield has changed, its spirit lives on. We are the defenders of the new digital world. We are AWAKE, always on guard—protecting more than 400 million users across the globe with our award-winning technologies.”
In our opinion Bitdefender is the best all-around Antivirus Software on the market this year. While it has competition on certain features from certain companies no one else maintains the consistent, high-level of performance that Bitdefender does. And that’s why Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2013 Dominates the Competition this year.
