Best Internet Security for 2013

Best Internet Security for 2013

| On 30, Oct 2012

In our last review article, we talked about our favorite candidates for the title of best antivirus software of 2013. While a good antivirus may protect you against malware and provide some defense against identity theft and other online dangers, you may need some extra muscle to make sure that every aspect of your digital life is protected. To help you decide amongst the multitude of software available, we have put together this handy list of the Best Internet Security Software for 2013.

6. McAfee Internet Security - MSRP: $69.99

McAfee Internet Security offers comprehensive, real-time anti-virus, anti-malware, firewall, spam filters, and parental controls, plus automated cloud backup. With some impressive features and great ease of use, this product would be higher on the list, if not for the fact that it is somewhat lacking in new features since it’s 2012 counterpart.

5. AVG Internet Security MSRP: $69.99

Next up in our lineup for Best Internet Security Software is AVG.  Claiming itself to be the “ultimate protection for your PC and online identity,” AVG Internet Security has a proven track  record, and provides most of the features that the average user needs to protect their computer.  AVG 2013 gives users  comprehensive virus and malware protection, spam  filters, identity theft and spying protection and social media defense.

Included mobile protection, and free telephone support definitely earn AVG some bonus points.

4. Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security MSRP: $69.95

Trend Micro Titanium has jumped a bit in the running since last year, due in no small part to their increased offerings in performance, privacy and identity theft protection. Easily the best suite yet released by Trend Micro, Titanium Internet Security sports a brand-new, easy to navigate user interface, increased protection for popular social networks (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.), “set-it-and-forget-it” security, and parental controls to keep your kids safe online. Titanium does lose a couple of points due to the fact that the download and install takes a bit longer than most other programs, but this is by no means a deal-breaker.

3. Kaspersky Internet Security - MSRP: $79.95

Though it doesn’t appear to have changed much in the past year, Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 has made some subtle changes and enhancements, earning it the third place spot on our  Best Internet Security list.  Kaspersky includes just about every security feature that you might need to defend your PC against online threats. Powerful parental controls, identity theft protection, geo-filtering, safebrowsing, virtual keyboard, social networking protection and even game mode  are just some of the awesome features that make Kaspersky Internet Security one of the top contenders.

Their reliable telephone, email and chat support is just icing on the cake.

2. BitDefender Internet Security - MSRP: $69.95

BitDefender is definitely among the best of the best when it comes to Internet Security software, and their 2013 release is no exception. Right off the bat, you will notice that installation is quick, painless and productive, since BitDefender Internet Security does an initial scan while it’s being installed. The interface has changed very little since last year, which is fine with us since 2012 saw the software overhauled into a stylish, yet simple UI.

As far as protection goes, BitDefender goes all out with live and virtualized, behavior-based threat detection, Autopilot mode, social network protection, exceptional privacy protection, and “scheduled scanning” which only takes place when your computer is idle. BitDefender also protects your transactions by opening your banking pages in a seperate, secure browser, so you don’t have to worry about hackers stealing your personal information.

BitDefender is highly recommended for users who want exceptional protection for their PC’s.

And The Winner Is…

1. Norton Internet Security – MSRP: $79.99

At the top of our list – the very pinnacle of Internet Security Software for 2013 – is Norton Internet Security. Published by Symantec, one of the world’s most trusted names in Security Software, Norton Internet Security offers you advanced internet and antivirus protections for just about anything you do online.

In addition to antivirus and antimalware capabilities, Norton also uses “SONAR” technology, which offers 24×7 threat monitoring, and scans for any suspicious behaviour,  blocking threats before they can touch your PC. Threat Removal targets and removes hard-to-catch infections that many other security products often overlook.

Norton Safe Web technology actively protects you while you surf the web by identifying and blocking threats as your browser loads, and notifies you of fake websites right within your search results.

Norton Internet Security 2013 is loaded with powerful features that offer you protection and security on a level nearly unrivaled (see: #2) by the competition. Though some other security software comes close to equalling the power and usability of Norton, their consistent commitment to PC security, as well as their free, 24-hour customer support, make Norton Internet Security the #1 Best Internet Security Software of 2013.
