Windows Server 2008 R2 Discontinued

Windows Server 2008 R2 Discontinued

You read that right. As of September 1st, 2012, Microsoft will discontinue Windows Server 2008 R2, in the wake of the upcoming Windows Server 2012 release.

This development comes amidst a veritable torrent of new releases from Microsoft. Other anticipated releases for 2012 include Visual Studio 2012, a cloud-based reimagining of the famed Microsoft Office software, and the long-awaited Windows 8. Earlier this year, the software giant released a new version of SQL Server, complete with a revised licensing program.

The world of software is perpetually in flux. With the ubiquity of mobile devices and the increasing push toward cloud computing, we here at SoftwareMedia.com are fairly certain that these new releases from Microsoft are only the beginning of a brave new world of software and technology, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
